VENTURA RIVER WATERSHED. Watershed Description. The Ventura River and its tributaries drain a coastal watershed in western Ventura County. The watershed covers a fan-shaped area of square miles, which is situated within the western Transverse Ranges (the only major east-west mountain ranges in the continental U.S.). The Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (IRWMP) is a document that identifies and plans for the current and future water resource-related needs of the Upper Santa Clara River (USCR) Watershed. The Watershed, or Region, consists of approximately 1, square miles and contains the upper reaches of the Santa Clara River; the largest natural.
Ground water is the main source of water in the Santa Clara-Calleguas ground-water basin that covers about square miles in Ventura County, California. A steady increase in the demand for surface- and ground-water resources since the late s has resulted in streamflow depletion and ground-water . The Ventura River and its tributaries comprise the major watershed in Zone 1 in the western portion of Ventura County. SANTA CLARA RIVER The major river in Zone 2 is the Santa Clara River with a watershed area of approximately 1, square miles.
